SOME PLACES WE WENT WHEN IT WAS NIGHT AND THE FOG WAS THICK AND YOU COULDN'T SEE A THING:
Don't know what it is about fog but all I want to do when a really thick fog sets down over the city is get
in the car and drive out to somewhere I've never been before and get get completely and horribly lost. This weekends
fog found the Fort Saint Davids team lost — not horribly lost, but kind of lost — out in the Yardley/Newtown area.
Discovered the Roberts Ridge Park — still can't tell you what it actually looked like, since visibly seemed like ten
feet at one point. Hey what's that over the ridge — it's a field! No it's a lake! No it's a white tent over a greenhouse!
Hey look at that wolf up there on the hill — ahhh! Don't say stuff like that!
Heading out further into the fog-encrypted night we found ourselves at Washington's Crossing, only a few miles
downstream from Milton, PJ. There's this huge park over on the Jersey side that time and fog prevented us from completely
exploring. All the buildings around here looked a billion years old — really charming stuff. Found an ancient brick gate
that led to a field of hay and the most haunted-looking barn I've ever seen in my life. The fog began to lift and the
moon came out from behind the pines like an evil eye in the sky. The clouds looked like they were going the speed of light.
Back in the car, more random turns and intuitive exits led us to Langhorne, where two summers ago we drank
forties with our good pal Max. Come to think of it, that was a foggy night too. We had tried to find the Delaware Water
Gap and instead found some creepy cult-house, decroded bridges, and a Denny's where we all had breakfast at three in the
morning. Good times.
A man at a gas station recommended the American Eagle Diner, which we found was actually called the Great American
Diner (with a picture of an eagle.) This place fucking ruled. It was like Perkins meets roadhouse saloon. Warped teenage
culture, couples returning from formals, stoners and truckers, all under one roof. If I had grown up in Langhorne this
place would have changed my life. Four stars.
